Day 15: Better and Better
Okay, so I didn't feel like blogging the last few days. My bad. I felt kinda tired the last couple of days but have had hardly any pain and no headaches. The cravings and temptations aren't getting to me now. It's kinda funny, though. We were at Costco and there were a ton of free samples. My kids and husband tried Bagel Bites, Gogurt, Dr. Pepper, chocolate eggs, European cookies, cheese, torta bread, and Pop Chips. I had none and wasn't bothered by that. But it was funny to me that I was more tempted by the cheese than the chocolate eggs and cookies, being the chocoholic that I was. Good sustainable energy today. Happy to be alive and well!
Meal 1:
Two sausage links
Cucumber
Meal 2:
Organic deli turkey w/ mustard
Almond/walnut mix
Half a berry smoothie
Meal 3:
Spicy turmeric chicken
2 roma tomatoes drizzled with balsamic vinaigrette
Half a cup of Naked's Green Machine
Symptoms: Mild soreness in shoulders, lower back pain.
Day 10: Cravings
Today the cravings are coming on strong! I really, really want a bowl of pasta and/or a DQ blizzard. I felt miserable eating everything today. I wanted my old food! Sooo, I was pretty grumpy today, but I did feel better overall. I've noticed I'm slimming down a bit, I had almost no pain in my legs all day, and I had energy to last through the day. However, I did decide to take it easy with my energy so I don't overdo it. We went for a nice slow walk to the post office and to find things for our nature journals. Cooking dinner tonight made me want to cry as I looked longingly at my family's french toast. But I really felt good that I stuck to the plan and toughed it out.
Meal 1:
3 all-natural sausage links
Cucumber
Meal 2:
Chicken soup
Spinach and tomato salad with balsamic vinaigrette
Meal 3:
Spicy mustard-glazed chicken thighs (surprisingly good, considering the smell! lol)
Smoothie - This was an interesting recipe Chad found. It consisted of blueberries, ice, baby spinach leaves, almond butter, unsweetened cocoa powder, and unsweetened coconut milk. I gagged at first. The coconut flavor was a little too intense for me. But once I got used to it, it wasn't that bad. I could chug it down in three tries. :) I would make it again, but with almond milk instead.
Symptoms: Shoulder soreness. Lower back pain. Irritability.
Day 9: The Doldrums
We overslept for church today! My husband can get ready in half and hour, but I can't; so I had to stay home, which made me grumpy. I was exhausted anyway. I slept most of the morning and was grumpy almost the whole time I was up. I cheered up a bit in the evening after a visit from Mikensi, but I was down again by the time the kids went to bed. Bummer of a day.
Meal 1:
Fried egg
Baby carrots
Roma tomato
Meal 2:
Chicken soup
Spinach and tomato salad with balsamic vinaigrette
Meal 3:
Kalua pork (Thank you, Mikensi!!!!)
Green beans
Spaghetti sqauash
Banana
Symptoms: A lot of soreness in my shoulders (probably from playing basketball). Mild pain in my legs. Weakness in arms and legs. Pain in lower back.
Day : Recharging
After all the activity of the las two days, I guess my body needs a day to recharge. I slept most of the day, so hopefully I'll be able to get up for early church tomorrow.
Meal 1:
1 fried egg
1 all-natural sausage link
Garlic greans beans sauteed in ghee
Meal 2:
Chicken soup
Spinach and grape tomato salad with balsamic vinagrette
Snack (late evening):
1 fried egg
I didn't have all my meals today because of sleeping so much. But I had a protein snack a couple hours before bed.
Symptoms: All-over soreness. Weakness in legs and arms. Slight headach in the early evening.
Day 7: I did it!
I survived one whole week of Whole30 with NO CHEATS, and I am feeling fabulous! I thought today was going to be rough because of the intense pain the night before. It usually takes me a few days to recover from something like that. Nope! I woke up with some soreness and was somewhat tired, but I was fine otherwise. Got all the kids' schoolwork done in the morning, painting in the afternoon, and then outside to play again for a couple of hours. I actually played football with my kids and the neighbor's kids! Haha! That's just crazy!
Meal 1:
Two fried eggs
Cucumber
Meal 2:
Extra spicy turkey taco meat over spinach with hazelnuts and balsamic vinagrette
Pineapple
Meal 3:
One fried egg
Two all-natural sausage links
Spinach and grape tomato salad with balsamic vinagrette
Day 6: The Energy Fairy Came Back
I had a ton of energy today! I was able to do so much more today. I babysat a neighbor's child and helped the children get all their schoolwork done by lunchtime. I arranged a playdate for Kurt in the afternoon and let the girls paint. I didn't need and nap, so I actually got to sit and do my hair and makeup. Then we all went outside to play for two hours until Daddy came home. After that, I cooked a dinner that required a lot of work. When we were outside and I was pulling my little ones along in their wagon, I was thinking how wonderful it was to be able to do so much with my children. I seriously almost came to tears. It has been such a blessing to me!!!
Meal 1:
Two fried eggs
Cucumber
Pear
Meal 2:
Extra spicy turkey taco meat over romaine with hazelnuts and balsamic vinagrette
Pineapple
Meal 3:
Sloppy Joe stuffed sweet potatoes
Strawberries
Symptoms: Neck and shoulder soreness. Back pain. I did experience intense pain in my back and legs in the evening due to all the activity. That would be my fibromyalgia acting up.
Day 5: Blah
Today I woke up with a lot of soreness and was very fatigued. I slept a lot today, so it was a blah kind of day. I'm thinking low carb flu is rearing it's ugly head. I did get up and make a few things this evening, like garlic grean beans, balsamic vinaigrette, and paleo bbq sauce. Hope all that energy comes back soon.
Meal 1:
Two eggs fried in ghee
Baby carrots
1 roma tomato
Meal 2:
Chicken soup
Almonds
Pineapple
Meal 3:
Extra spicy turkey taco meat over spinach (I was getting bored with this, so I added chopped hazelnuts for crunch and a tablespoon of the vinaigrette I made for tanginess. So much better!)
Whole 30 approved muffin
Symptoms: Whole-body soreness. Pain in neck, shoulders, and lower back. Mild headache throughout the day. Fatigue.
Day 4: Wow!
Today I have more energy than I've had in a very long time! I wasn't tired until late evening. I did take a short nap during that day, but it was more out of habit than being tired.
Meal 1:
3 all-natural sausage links
Baby carrots
1 roma tomato
Meal 2:
Extra spicy turkey taco meat over spinach
Almonds
Banana
Snack:
Small amount of berry smoothie sans sugar

Leftover chicken and fauxtatoes
Whole 30 approved muffin (Big thank you to Mikensi and friend Rie)
Symptoms:
Pain in neck, shoulders, and back. Very bad headache in the evening.
Day 3: Energy!
I was surprised that I actually had an increase in energy this early in the game. There was less soreness today and energy enough for my children. I actually took them out to the playground today! It was only for about 15 minutes because we were freezing, but still...
Meal 1:
Eggs scrambled in ghee
Lots of baby carrots
Meal 2:
Extra spicy turkey chili over romaine
Almonds
Banana
Meal 3:
Chicken breast sauteed in ghee and pepper
Garlic cauliflower mashed fauxtatoes
Green beans
Peach
Symptoms: Pain in neck, shoulders, and lower back. Very mild soreness in back of legs and ankles. Bad headache in the evening.
Day 2: Fasting
Today was Fast Sunday and I decided the blessings of fasting would be greater than the consequences of skipping two of the meals. And Mikensi, I fasted for you as well, so extra spiritual power is coming your way. ;)
Meal 1:
Spicy Turkey Taco Meat with romaine lettuce
Half a cucumber
A handful of macadamia nuts
1 large peach (Thank you, Mikensi! OMG, delishusss!)
Today's symptoms:

Bad headache in the evening
Lightheadedness in the evening
Day 1: Rockin' it!
First off, a thanks to Mikensi to letting me take up space on her blog. Being here and having to post everyday gives me a little more accountability. So yay for that! But I'm all for keeping things brief here. :)
Starting symptoms: Fibromyalgia, including generalized, all-over pain, fatigue, fatigue, fatigue, anxiety, depression, gut problems, frequent headaches, insomnia, brain fog, and occasional dizziness. I also have a herniated disc in my lower back that gives me constant pain. Wow! That's no way to live! So...
Day 1 of Whole30
Meal 1:
3 organic eggs fried in ghee (protein and healthy fat - check)
One roma tomato and baby carrots (fill rest of plate with veggies - check)
Meal 2:
We weren't at home, but I made sure to bring a handful of almonds, a bag of baby carrots, and water. I got my fat and veggies in, so I had to double up on protein for dinner.
Meal 3:
Sirloin steak (double portion)
Cauliflower and Broccoli florets roasted in ghee (Yum, btw!)
Today's symptoms: All-over pain (mild), specifically head and shoulders, chest, lower back, buttocks, back of legs, ankles, and heels. Fatigue mid morning, mid afternoon, and evening. Headache off and on throughout the day.
Here's hoping these symptoms start to get better in the next 30 days!
